YOUNGSTOWN, OH (May 26, 2023) – YourArts announces auditions for the inaugural youth cabaret, Miscast Melodies. Open auditions will be held on Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at The Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, Youngstown 44511.

Young performers will display their vocal and acting talents by performing pieces they dream of performing, but would not traditionally be cast in. The repertoire will include songs from hit musicals like Newsies, Hamilton, Jersey Boys, Book of Mormon, Beetlejuice, and more.

Seeking performers 12 to 18 years old. Performers should come prepared with a 32 bar song they wouldn’t be expected to sing and wow the Creative Team with their confidence, acting, and musicianship. Sheet music or a track to accompany their audition is required.

“Arts education is more than just learning the fundamentals of theatre and music. It’s also challenging yourself to see what more you can accomplish with interpretive characterization and effective vocals. Miscast Melodies is an opportunity for young artists in the Mahoning Valley to perform pieces they love to sing for fun, but with a spotlight”, said Education Coordinator, Emelia Sherin.

The creative team is led under the direction of Emelia Sherin and Music Director, Rosie Bresson. Rehearsals will begin Monday, June 19 and will run Monday to Thursday evenings, 4:00-6:00pm. Technical rehearsals will occur the week of July 5. Community performances will take place July 7 and 8, followed by the full performance on July 9 at Flad Pavilion inside the DeYor Performing Arts Center.
